Before setting off we were a little dubious about what we might find find on the island of Majorca given its reputation as one of the favourite British holiday destinations.
However, we did not need to worry, Palma itself is somewhat off the beaten track for most package holidaymakers and is a smart city with good facilities.
Food and drink was in plentiful supply and generally good quality and reasonably priced.
Palma does appear to have a particular problem with organised pickpockets. We were "sized up" by a group of them whilst waiting for a bus in the city centre. Fortunately we had seen them and were watching out. There is no doubt that we would have been relieved of some of our valuables had we stopped to assist the lady who had "dropped" her belongings as she entered the bus alongside the man with an overcoat draped over his false arm (allowing his real arm to do other things!).
Travel
Liverpool - Palma with Easyjet
No complaints about the flight apart from the very early morning start which meant we had to drink Stella Artois at 6.00am!
Palma - Soller on the Soller Railway
This is a must-do trip for anybody visiting Palma. The trip gives spectacular views as the train climbs through the mountains before descending to the small fishing village of Soller. For those wishing to explore Soller a bit more there is a connecting tram service from the train station down to the port.
Accommodation
Hotel Horizonte, Palma
Located near the marina this hotel has a huge sun terrace on the roof which gives great views out to sea.
